When I Die
An inspiring story about death. In early production.
Sabrina only wanted hands that loved her to touch her.
After a late-stage ovarian cancer diagnosis, the 38-year-old shares her dying wish with her sister, daughter and five close friends: “When I die, I want you to take care of my body in my home, hold my funeral in the yard, and I want a green burial on nearby land.” Fearing it will all go sideways, what surprises them is not just how simple it is, but how much healing takes place as they tend to her body and offer their final acts of love. One of them is so moved by the powerful experience that she resolves to take on the challenge of making community deathcare and green burial accessible to all.
WHEN I DIE asks, what is sacrificed when we outsource the deathcare of our loved ones to industrialized systems, and what can be gained from re-claiming these community-based life skills?
